“St Davids Day is a special day where we celebrate Wales, her people, and her contribution to the world. We remember our patron Saint, St David, and his message for us to ‘do the little things’.
“That message remains true today. Doing the little things means looking out for our neighbours, supporting community events, and giving what we can when we can. All too often events in Wales and the wider world can overwhelm individuals and make us feel that we’re powerless. But it’s important that we recognise that we all have something to contribute to make this a better society. If each of us did our own little bit to help each other, it would make one big difference.
“St Davids Day is for everybody who loves Wales and wants to see Wales prosper, whatever your background. Being Welsh means different things to different people. My Welshness is drawn from the proud history of our small nation, from the creation of the NHS, the Chartists who stood up for their rights and our own champion in the Dee Valley – Owain Glyndwr. But that history also guides my future, and the future of my children, to constantly fight for our rights and for a better society. Only when we work together, doing the little things, will this be realised.
“I wish you all a happy St David’s Day, and hope that we all remember to do the little things.”
