PETITION – open more community beds

Ambulances are queuing 12 deep at our District General Hospitals and A&E is failing to cope with demand.

Clinicians are saying that the closure of hospital has contributed to the problems at our General hospitals

North Wales has lost 400 hospital beds between 2009 and 2014

4 community hospitals have been closed with the loss of 53 beds (Llangollen, Flint, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Prestatyn)

We the undersigned are calling on the Welsh Government and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to open hospital beds in the community and work closer with Social Services to utilise beds in the social sector

  1. I think it’s unfortunate that this petition is being circulated under the banner of Plaid Cymru. Plaid has not spoken out about these cuts where I live over the many years they have been proposed and implemented. In fact Dafydd Elis Thomas has given his support to the closures

    1. Thanks Lynn.
Comment and criticism is welcomed. But it’s not true that Plaid Cymru has not spoken out about the cuts.
Dafydd Elis Thomas hasn’t, true. That’s his decision, and I’m not going to even attempt to defend it.
Elfyn Llwyd, your MP has done a great deal to help the campaign. So too the Councillors. Also cuts have been carried out in other places. Llyr Gruffydd AM has done huge amounts for the cause.
I have been active on the Llangollen campaign for four years, and for the whole north Wales campaign since January 2013.
And who lead the campaign to stop the neonatal move to Arrowe Park? Plaid. Who succeeded in forcing the Welsh Gov to commit to develop a neonatal centre of excellence in Glan Clwyd? Plaid. Plaid has also been active in the Prince Phillip hospital campaign in Llanelli; Cardigam and Bronglais hospitals; and other campaigns across Wales.
It saddens me that one of our elected representatives hasn’t joined the campaign to save the hospital and services in Ffestiniog, but it’s not correct to criticise the Party for this, because even local to you Plaid has been and still is active.
