100 Labour MPs abstain from Yemen vote

Tens of thousands of people have suffered or been killed in Yemen because of the on-going vicious war there, with Saudi Arabia trying to force its will on the country.

It is undoubted that Saudi Arabia are committing war crimes in Yemen with their targeting of civilians.

In late 2015 Amnesty International accused Saudi Arabia of targeting schools:

Saudi Arabia-led coalition forces have carried out a series of air strikes targeting schools that were still in use, in violation of international humanitarian law, and hampering access to education for thousands of Yemen’s children, said Amnesty International in a new briefing published today. The coalition forces are armed by states including the USA and UK.

Earlier this year we heard of an airstrike on a bustling market, killing 41 innocent civilians.

And only in October we learned of the bombing of a funeral:

Saudi YemenThey could not carry out these atrocities without weapons. But where do they get their weapons from?
You guessed it.

In September we learned that the US were selling arms to Yemen

And that our own Government were also heavily in on the act,

BAE Systems in arms talks with Saudi Arabia

Our Government has profited from the death and suffering of tens of thousands of innocent Yemenis.

Last night one of our (Plaid Cymru) MPs, Liz Saville-Roberts, called on the Government to suspend its license for arms sales to Saudi Arabia.

So I was glad to read today that the Labour Party had put forward a motion calling for the UK to withdraw support for the Saudi-led coalition involved in the Yemen civil war.

Yemen Motion

The motion failed.

It failed partly because 100 Labour MPs refused to support their own party’s motion and abstained (a nasty habit)!

According to this website, my very own MP failed to support the motion.

What has Labour become?

A lot of people have taken to twitter to call them out
