Funding to create 30 jobs in Corwen welcomed 15.03.11

Plaid Cymru candidate for Clwyd South Mabon ap Gwynfor has welcomed the funding provided by the Welsh Assembly Government to help create 12 full time jobs and secure a further 9 jobs in the Corwen area, while at the same time giving a significant boost to tourism in the area.

Heritage Minister Alun Ffred Jones has given the go ahead for a £200,000 grant to part fund The Rhug Estate’s new permanent outlet on the A5 a mile west of Corwen.

The Rhug Estate plan to build a purpose built dining area, retail outlet, rest rooms, and tourism information area near the current site.

“This is welcome news for the Corwen area,” said Mabon ap Gwynfor. “It is a case of a successful enterprise attracting greater success. Coupled with the recent funding to bring the Llangollen railway to Corwen announced by Plaid Cymru Minister Jocelyn Davies, these investments should help boost the tourism industry in the town and the area. The area needs jobs, and this investment will create 12 full time positions and possibly more and secure the 9 currently working on site.

“It is a vote of confidence in Corwen. For too long the area has been ignored, but Plaid Cymru are determined to give the area the recognition it deserves.”
